PRIVACY POLICY

Privacy policy

This page describes what videobycode collects, why, and what you can ask us to do about it.

1. What we collect

  • Messages you send us. If you email us, we receive your address, your name if you give one, and whatever you write.
  • Analytics data. Pages viewed, referring page, approximate region, browser and device type, and IP address, collected automatically when you visit.

This site has no user accounts, no comment system, and no newsletter sign-up, so nothing else is collected from you.

2. Why we use it

  • To answer your message.
  • To see which articles are read and where they need updating.
  • To keep the site working and to investigate abuse.
  • To meet legal obligations.

3. Cookies and analytics

We may use an analytics tool to understand traffic. Where that tool sets cookies, they are used to distinguish one visit from another and do not identify you by name. You can block or delete cookies in your browser without losing access to any article on this site.

4. Affiliate links

Some articles contain affiliate links. When you click one, the vendor or its affiliate network may set a cookie in order to attribute a later purchase. That happens on their systems under their privacy policy, and we do not receive your payment details. What we may receive is a commission notice that does not identify you. See the affiliate disclosure.

5. Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We disclose it only when:

  • you have asked us to;
  • a service provider needs it to operate the site or its analytics on our behalf, under instructions from us;
  • the law requires it, or it is necessary to protect someone's safety.

6. Retention

Email correspondence is kept while it is useful for handling corrections, then deleted. Analytics data is kept in aggregate; individual records are not retained longer than the analytics tool's default period.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, and to object to certain processing. Write to info@videobycode.com and we will act on the request within a reasonable period once we can confirm it came from you. Exercising these rights costs nothing and will not change how the site works for you.

8. Children

This site is written for developers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

9. Security

The site is served over encrypted connections, and access to the mailbox and analytics account is restricted. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so please do not send us sensitive personal data by email.

10. Changes

This policy may change as the site or the law changes. The current version always appears on this page with the revision date below.
